Palermo Shooting

Famous photographer Finn goes through a sort of crisis in his (creative) life. He cannot sleep and doesn't see any sense in anything anymore. He decides to leave to Palermo and spend few days there. Things don't really get better, on contrary, several times he encounters a meeting with a strange person in grey coat which shoots at him with an arrow. The only one that believes him and helps him is a painter Flavia...

Soon there comes the point for him to meet his fears and start a new life.

Palermo Shooting has quite bad critics. However, it kept me following, it kept me thinking, and definitely was one of the best of my IFF Bratislava 2008. With the great music.

A odpoveď znela - NIE. Tak som za to na seba hrdá. :)
Děti noci
Night Owls (2008) of Michaela Pavlátová. New Czech movie with great performance of both main characters - Martha Issová as Ofka, and Jiří Mádl as Ubr.

I am not the one to say if this was the movie to prove that the Czech cinematography is not in crisis - I am not the one to say the Czech cinematography would be in some crisis anyway... What I can say is only what this movie was for me. And that is very realistically pictured part of life of a Czech girl Ofka (which can be I dare say a Slovak or Polish without any doubt...).

After high school Ofka chooses to stay home and work instead of going to university, as most of their classmates do. She works night shifts in the small non-stop grocery of her brother-in-law. The world she wanted to keep so much is slowly disappearing as the one she loves Míra leaves her and she drifts around the streets with her weird friend Ubr, who hopelessly loves her. Gradually she begins to realise she would have to give up the childhood and start to do something with her life...
Story going from nowhere to nowhere, still saying a lot to me, somehow seeing my own in it...
Pranzo di Ferragosto
Beautiful debut of almost 60-year-old Italian director Gianni Di Gregorio from 2008.
Gianni plays himself, a middle-aged Italian from high middle-class family, living with his elderly mother. For the holiday of Ferragosto on 15th August, everybody tries to get out of the city. Gianni has to stay home taking care of his mother, moreover, he has financial problems so he accepts the offer of the manager of his block of flats to cut off some of his debts in exchange to take care of his mother Marina, as well. They bring with them an aunt Maria, too, and for some more cash Gianni accepts her also. The one to finish a quaterfoil of elderly ladies is Grazia, mother of Gianni's friend - doctor...
.jpg)
For the two days when most of people are enjoying holiday with their beloved ones and families, Gianni is fully occupied with four posh elderly ladies. Each of them with her own moods and specialties, each of them fully jewellied and in make-up. Marina wants Gianni's mother's TV for herself and when they take it away from her, she refuses to eat. Grazia is supposed to be on a strict diet, instead, she eats everything she sees...
Funny situations with a bit posh, bit loony and bit childish ladies, showing us also how sweet and grateful they can be for a nice word or a bit of attention. And surely they make us think for a while where have the elderly people their place in our society...
Le Silence de Lorna
The Silence of Lorna is a new (2008) film of Belgian brothers Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne. Won the Prize for the Best Screenplay and was nominated for the Golden Palm in the festival in Cannes.
Lorna is an Albanian living in Belgium, with her boyfriend Sokol trying to earn money to buy a bistro. She gets into the marriage business with Fabio: first she marries Claudy, a belgian dopie, to obtain a belgian citizenship herself, then the plan is to marry a russian mafioso for a lots of money.
The problem occurs when Claudy wants to get out of his addiction and begs Lorna to help him out. Fabio arranges his death anyway and that is when Lorna starts to occur as a problem...will she keep silent? ...
The Silence of Lorna is convictive, well done movie, hard and exhausting though. I couldn't go dancing just after...
You send me this...
...and then all the trees sing, my belly tickles, my lips turn into smile. Szeretlek és akarlok.

Caotica Ana
Ana is a beautiful girl living with her German father at Ibiza island in a cave, painting her colourful paintings and selling them to tourists. One day Justine occurs and offers Ana new life in Madrid, in a community of young artists, where she would get some art classes.

There Ana starts completely new life, without her beloved father, whom she keeps writing letters. She meets Linda, who becomes her best friend, and Said, her first love. One night she gets through a spiritual experience of her past life and speaks with Said in fluent Arabic. Next morning Said disappears and Ana starts to have the regular hypnosis with Ango, but she keeps refusing to see herself on the recordings which Linda makes from the sessions.
Slowly she understands what is inside her, but the next meeting with Said reveals the shocking fact and she looses him again. In the end she is able to live together with all the women inside her and use it...

Caotica Ana has some naivity, boring parts, unfinished relations and personnages as if just to fill some gaps, few scenes seem to be there just to add some more minutes to a whole movie. Caotica Ana has also nice shots, good camera, colourful authentic paintings of Medem's dead sister Ana, pretty and pretty good actors, some good scenes.
Not a bad movie, but Lucia still wins completely for me...

Zeitgeist: The Movie
Spracovať to a vytvoriť si názor.

Zeitgeist: The Movie je dielom Petera Josepha z roku 2007. Rozdelený na tri časti:
- v 'The Greatest Story Ever Told' rozoberá similarity množstva veľkých i menších, súčasných i minulých náboženstiev s pridaním astrologického výkladu.
- 'All the World's a Stage' sa zaoberá fenoménom 11. septembra, nič nové pre mnohých čo videli jeden z množstva iných dokumentov zaoberajúcim sa týmto neslávnym dňom.
- 'Don't Mind the Men Behind the Curtain' nahliada do systému americkej centrálnej banky a ako pár osôb pomocou nej a ďalších svetových bankových a monetárnych združení ovláda svet a hlavné dianie v ňom.
O našej jedinečnosti a sile. Presne to, čomu verím, a už neraz ma rozplakalo. Pretože stále neviem, čo presne s tým. Pretože (aj keď stále dosť nejasne) vidím svet a ľudí okolo mňa. A seba tiež. No i tak je to krásne, pretože mám nádej. Pretože všetko je otázkou voľby. Just a choice right now. Between fear and love.
Gasolina
The story as I saw it was about three friends wanting to get to the beach. One of them has a car, they steel a gasoline from the cars parked around the neighbourhood. They meet people, ask money from their family members, love airplanes. As they drive to the beach, they watch an airplane flying above them, and dream of being in a cockpit. Including the driver. In the middle of this dream he crashes someone (or something). Their solution is to burn the crashed object (very unclear for me whether it was a person or not...)

In the end they get to the beach. The driver gets the asthma attack while the two others are still sleeping. The film ends with a picture of him hardly breathing knocking on the door of nearby factory to get the electricity for his breathing machine...
Very low-cost movie, the director probably deserves compliments just for making it. But just as I heard a Bratislava film college teacher saying just after the projection: "Our students make better ones..."
Boring.

Waterbaby

You're heart is served cold
You're sights are set in perfect stone,
And when you go you go alone,
And when you stand you're on your own,
I wash the streets from your skin when you come home
We're nothing like friends,
You have no time to lend,
And if you're guilt then I'm the shame,
And if I'm hurt then you're the blame
You wash my trace from your skin and you leave again
Random laid plans,
40 days of one night stands,
And when you go you go alone
You walk the cross you made your own
I wash the streets from your skin when you come home
